First MS. in Museum Studies

The Department of Museum Studies and Cultural Management Heritage awarded its first Master Degree to Ms. Rita Kalindjian.

"The growth of museums throughout the Middle East, the Gulf, and west Asia regions indicates that there is a new museum paradigm in the 21st century", stated Dr. Nadine Haroun, Head of the Department of museum studies and cultural management.

She added: "This Master's program combines academic museum courses with an emphasis on practical musuem training".

The program graduates professionals capable of leading and directing centers or institutions that deal with information management such as museums, cultural centers and historical sites.

Presiding the jury, Dr. Georges Nahas, Dean of the Faculty of Library and Information Studies, invited Dr. Arda Ekmekji, Dean of School of Arts & Sciences  at the Haigazian University as visiting juror. The other two jurors were the supervisors of the thesis project: Dr. Nadine Panayot Haroun and Dr. Laurine Célarier from Université Paris 1 la Sorbonne who was following the defense through Skype.  Ms. Rita Kalindjian successfully defended her Ms. project entitled: "Proposal for an Interpretive Exhibition Intinerary for Cilicia Museum, Antelias Lebanon".

The importance of Ms. Kalindjian's work, explains Dr. Haroun: "is the use of a didactic, pedagogical and scientific approach to a museum exhibition designed by a Lebanese professional".

"This study will, among other academic achievements, bring the institution up to a new level, raising it to international museum standards", she concluded.
